"But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father shall send in my name, he shall teach you all things..." John 14:26

The early church came to a decision about how they would deal with the Gentiles. All the apostles were involved in the decision. They had an order about how they went about to resolve the issue. These people involved in the dispute were recognized as people who believed.

The end decision was based on, “it seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us to place upon you no greater burden”. (Acts 15:28) The Holy Ghost bore a lot of weight in terms of influence.

When they first came together, there was a lot of disputing. When they came to the decision, there may have been still uneasiness, but they were one with the Holy Ghost. They had oneness of purpose of the will of God. It was not focused on trying to bring two cultures together. They were the same already, because they were God’s and that was enough. The bible teaches that we are to be of one mind and soul, working together in the gospel. It incorporates a lot of longsuffering. One accord is not perfect culture or understanding, but perfect heart and desire for the will of God. They didn’t all have the same understanding but they had the same purpose of heart- to do the will of God.

There can be big disagreements among Christians, but God has a way to solve all problems. We need to be careful and follow the order of God. It took some time for them to resolve this issue. If there is a disagreement between us, we can take note from them. There are things we will have to work through too. We must not be so quick to judge and find fault, but work through for understanding.

The answer to the Gentile question was the Holy Ghost. We need to let the Holy Ghost bear a lot of weight in influence today. It will show us the things that matter to the Lord.

How much damage is done when the Holy Ghost is left out and people begin to "lean on their own understanding!"
