"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?" Matthew 6:25-30 The cares of life- We usually think farther ahead than we need to. What can we do about tomorrow? We are taught to think ahead. That’s why ceramic piggy banks were invented. The plan was to think ahead and prepare so that when the time of need arrived, the bank could be broken and the money would be available. It is a human thing to do. We are taught to take care of our own problems. We call it problem solving.
Fear plays into it too. The fear is, what will happen if we don’t be concerned about the problem? We should plan and be responsible. How do we balance that with what Jesus said?
There are many situations and circumstances in life that rest heavy on the mind. There are things that impact us, but all of our thinking about them cannot change them. Why do we carry things that only God can take care of? We all find ourselves in this situation many times. God doesn’t want us to just ignore problems. We feel that we have a responsibility, but when we are not getting anywhere, we must give it to God. Life’s situations may be happening and we have no control. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. If something is threatening you that is out of your scope, give it to God. Even in things we can control, we can have a peace and trust in God. Don’t allow things to disrupt the peace we have in God. "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Matthew 6: 31-34
This scripture is talking about our needs. When you don’t know where the money will come from for the brake job, trust God. The word 'thought' means to be anxious or worried. If we are worshiping the Lord and enjoying our relationship with Him, it helps us get our mind off the anxiousness. It gives us grace. When we are troubled about things, we are not thinking about the kingdom of God. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 Let not your heart be troubled. Give it back to God and trust that he will not fail us. Sometimes it is not easy to give it back. Everything we go through is part of the plan of God. There is a purpose of God for what you are going through. Believing that is important when things look so impossible. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 The Devil is always throwing things at us to cause us to doubt and throw our confidence away. Jesus forewarned us that in the world we would have troubles. We must remember that we are not living for the this world and its riches. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." 1 Peter 5:6-9 The scripture is describing a situation that is fierce and in-your-face and is very difficult and beyond what you can handle. The Devil works hard on the mind, ferociously threatening that things will turn out horribly. Resist steadfast in the faith. Cast your care upon God and be humble. Being in control is not a place of humility. God is in control. There’s something to be accomplished. "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8 It helps us keep our hearts and minds in the right place. Only things that provide virtue or praise should go in our mind. It is easy for humans to think about negative things. We must exercise our mind by thinking about good things. Acknowledge what God has already been doing for you. Be thankful. "But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." 1 Peter 5:10 This is part of the goal. God has a purpose in everything.
