TEXT: PSALMS 40:1-8

1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4  Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5  Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
6  Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
8  I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” This needs to be  “where we get to,” …and not merely a mental concept.  It needs to be embedded, and engraved in our heart. A mental recognition of this is important, but it is more important for it to be truly in our heart and soul.  The repetition of hearing and reading it, will help us in this effort.  Often in life, we can  “end up” in a place that is unpleasant, …that is usually of our own doing.  It is a picture of mankind’s reaping because of sinful disobedience towards God.  We need the anointing of God’s instruction.  We need to acknowledge the influence of God as greater than the wisdom of the world, which is the “junk” ..of sin.  Sin is a horrible condition. If you serve it, it will be as a quicksand trap …of nowhere to go.

Thinking you know what is best for you, will always lead you to the same end….a horrible pit, (verse 2). There is not a more horrible condition than being left in sin. Mere religion wants to excuse and condone it, but sin will ruin your life. Through sin, Satan wants to destroy you!  Some won’t care about one’s horrible condition, because they are there. But there is one friend that is true, …Jesus Christ.  Even with this knowledge, the devil will try to prevent one from escaping the horrible pit of self and sin.  If we have found Salvation, we should never forget the sin God brought us out of, and that all were once unholy.  For each, there has been that time we cried out when falling into a “pit,”, when no one seemed to care. This is a continued danger for all the saved, to also fall right back into sin. But by keeping our testimony, we demonstrate God’s grace to keep us out.

Much of society have been exposed to only sin in their life, …so often are unashamed of it. Only a victorious testimony will make lost souls aware of their need of help .. the need.to be rescued.  They need to know that God will incline His ear to hear their cry, to find their way out. God’s children also need to stay aware of their own heart’s condition to know how to escape and keep out of sin.  If we are unstable in our service to Jesus, it will only be because we haven’t kept our spiritual eyes upon Him. Only walking after Jesus will keep us safe and secure. Who are you following? Your own ideas and interpretations?  Only Christ should be our example, to ensure a victorious spiritual end in life.

It’s important to follow God, to end up in God’s grace of holiness.
