TEXT: JAMES 4:5-10

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.                               11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren, He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law; but if you judge the law, that art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

These scriptures give the key to getting “connected” to God, (or saved.) Having a connection is more than a “light” thing. It means to be bound or tied together. Spiritually it means having a genuine relationship with God. To be connected to God, one needs to without reservation listen to Him as if He is the only one in the room with them. This is His price for our spiritual connection. God will then deliver His grace in our life.  Then to keep the power of grace, we must keep and stay spiritually connected. A temporal illustration would be, if you bought a cell phone, seeking to also purchase a connecting service, you would not be able to do so, unless you paid the required price. Similarly God requires of us, a prerequisite to have the power of His grace.  He ask us to take up our cross and follow Him. He also tells us there is a cost. Luke 14: 27 Whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.  28 For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?  Anything less does not bring the desired spiritual connection. It only comes by first “counting the full cost,” ..and  “paying” it.

How do we stay connected when self and sin would interfere? We must first consider that life is full of distractions. Spiritually we must resist anything that would distract our direct connection with God personally.  James 4:7-8, tells us,  “Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners, and purify your hearts ye double minded.”  So we must go wherever, and do whatever that would keep us close to God.  How much is your connection to God worth to you? There needs to be an urgency to stay connected closely to God. What would help us here, is to recognize the penalty in not doing so. The loss of the power of grace. The spiritual loss of our very soul.  We must have an overwhelming desire to keep the connection, in order to stay connected.  Otherwise the penalty of sin will disconnect us into a spiritual death. Humility is the currency that will keep your “account” open with God.  You must “sell” every distraction to really surrender to Him.

Connecting and staying connected to God. Do you need to open an account with Him?
