TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:31-36
31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Jesus Christ our Lord, I die daily.
32If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
You cannot have new life, unless you first die. The question to God’s children then is “What have you done with your spiritually dead body?” To the sinner, the message is, “There must be a death to sin, to have a new body, ..or life.” I Corinthians 15, Verses 55-57, declares (paraphrased in parts) “O death, where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory?” “the sting of death is sin…..,” “Thanks be to God who gives victory (over sin) through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Every day in the life of God’s children, there must be a death to self and sin. This is not about blaming things, or others for problems you have. That would be destructive. But, it is about “have you died to your self?”
We cannot let self be in the way, even when we have legitimate problems. Verse 33 essentially tells us not to be deceived because sinful selfish speech, and actions will corrupt us. So when you were born again in Christ, what did you then do with the sinful and selfish habits of that old body (life)? When problems arise, do you revert to your past fleshly (carnal) ways of handling them? Real help is only found when we humble ourselves, and cast all our cares upon God, (I Peter 5:6,7). Help comes through dying daily, making sure we have had a funeral of our old life of self and sin.
Have you kept a few of the past habits of self? When we allow ourselves to revert to any of our old ways of self, it brings us that much closer to returning to the past life of sin. It’s a life we must continue to die to, if we want to stay alive in Christ. Dying daily, by letting go of all those problems that connect you to bitterness, blame, etc. This is in order to obtain and keep Salvation. Hanging on to the pitfalls of self, will only make for an unhealthy soul. For self leads you back to the sting of spiritual death. Most of us potentially have had something of their past …that they enjoyed. Satan wants to draw you back with that past. But those things must be forsaken. All the pride, selfishness, etc., will need to be let go of, in order to have a funeral of self and sin. This is key to having and keeping a new birth and life through Jesus.
Dying daily. What have you done with your old body?
