TEXT: ROMANS 5:19-21
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
What is sin, and when is it deadly? Sin is a choice. “He that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17. If we are not obeying all that we know of God’s Word, and Will for our life, ..this is sin. Sin also is of the absence of faith, (He that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14:23). When is it possible that sin is not deadly? All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.” I John 5:17. So evidently 1), all unrighteousness is sin; and 2), there is a sin which results in death, and 3), a sin which doesn’t. So it’s important to know the difference. For an example, there are choices we might make in life, that would be unrighteous, but without our knowledge or understanding. God doesn’t hold us accountable without our understanding. This defines a sin that is not unto death, though sin on the whole, would be spiritual death. “Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.” John 9:41
What will be the standard which we will be judged by? “…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 Living to the obedience of every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God is how we can make heaven our home. For God’s word is light and holiness for our soul. Sin is the darkness which will bring spiritual death.
Does your life show that you are delivered out of the death of sin?
