TEXT: JOHN 20:1-10
1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
Mary Magdalene found the stone rolled away. She had come to seek the body of her Lord, within the tomb, and found it empty. Then the disciples also came. They didn’t know yet of the scripture that Jesus must rise again from the dead, but yet they believed (verses 8,9). Their belief made them witnesses that Jesus had risen from the dead!
What is Christ’s last will and testament? How are we witnesses and who are the inheritors? Jesus’s will is that He has prepared a home in heaven, and those to inherit it are those who keep His commandments. 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:1,2,21 Keeping Christ’s commandments is to keep His will. Believing Christ’s Will, makes us witnesses to it, which brings the reward of inheriting it. Our witness is through believing in the death and resurrection made available for all souls. Witnesses, to be resurrected to a holy life, free from the bondage of sin and self.
It is being a witness that keeps a counterfeit from being accepted. When we truly believe God unto Salvation, we inherit something that the world and false religion cannot imitate. The world and worldly religion cannot produce a holy life. A life lived above sin and selfishness. A life that has died to sin and selfishness and been resurrected to a holy life of obedience.
Are you a witness of the resurrection? Are you a witness and inheritor to a life that is dead to sin, but alive in Christ?
