TEXT: MATTHEW 14:13-20

13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

18 He said, Bring them hither to me.

19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

Jesus’ response was without hesitation, that it was not necessary for the people to go for food; Jesus instructed the disciples to give them food to eat (verse 16). Why were the people on the hillside? They came because they had heard of Jesus who spoke with authority.  Jesus is the master of meeting needs!  The people had initially come also for the loaves and fishes, and were not disappointed.  It had been a long day, and they were hungry without nourishment to draw from.  Jesus met their needs both physically and in their spirits.  The miracle of the loaves and fishes helped the multitude understand that Jesus’s help is not limited by what we personally have to offer, or our limitations.

The help from God came with faith, as in a grain of mustard seed, (Matthew 17:20).  It is the world, and it’s religions that leads one spiritually unsatisfied, and hungry for God.   Jesus came to fill hearts, and He still has the same help today, as he did for that multitude that came to see Him.  When Jesus is on the scene, there is always enough!  Are you reaching out for help?  Are you hungry for an answer to your needs?

It’s not necessary to go elsewhere, …for Jesus is the answer to fill the needs of your soul and life!
