TEXT: GENESIS 3:22-24
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
After Adam and Eve disobeyed, they were no longer allowed to stay in the Garden of Eden, or to partake of the Tree of Life. They had to be evicted, to remove them from the promise and value of eternal life. Today, many of us realize that there is something of value in God, and eternity. The value is found through living holy for God. Before Adam and Eve became sinners, the garden and tree of life was created for them to live without sin in the presence of Almighty God.
God wants each to know that we have a purpose, that He has given us. If we love God, each day is better than the day before spiritually. We always have something to look forward to, eternally. Everyone needs to realize that eternity is forever, and each of us need to know where our place might be in it. God’s plan is for us to live through His will, and not by our own rules. It is not God’s plan for us to live according to our own ways, and still partake of the tree of life, although we might be religious. “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Revelations 22:14
We might think that God has no purpose for us. Peter denied Jesus 3 times, yet because he repented, found his purpose in working for Him. There’s always hope if you allow God to save you. Man’s ideas limit spiritual life. Hope is eternal through God, Who has no limits. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Genesis 1:1,3 Out of nothing, God made something! Too many trust in mere science. Too many are arrogant to think there is anything besides their ways and ideas. But GOD is the true science. Science is in part about that which is beyond what we might understand. Man’s science is uncertain, and always changing. God’s Word is the gospel, never changing, …and eternal. Jesus Christ is the face and focus of eternity.
What will it take for any of us to believe the existence of eternity, the gospel, and our place and purpose in it?
