TEXT: GENESIS 40: 2, 8
2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
We all sometimes have perplexing and severe problems we find difficult to understand. It’s important that we don’t depend on our human understanding or opinions to “translate” them. With any given subject of problems, there is often in society an expert that professionally deals with that subject. We need more than just another opinion to be steered in the right direction. We need an expert. In spiritual matters and problems, this is even more true. There is only one that God has given us to lead and comfort us, to find His interpretations for our needs. The Holy Spirit. The Holy Ghost (or Spirit) has the only correct understanding to seek.
We often think we understand, when only God truly knows. Our own heart and understanding (opinions) will often deceive us, for it is less than what God would tell us. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9 It is dangerous to keep your “own” counsel. Problems need an expert diagnosis; they need a correct interpretation. God has given us His interpreter; He has given us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Teacher, Counselor and Interpreter. He is our Peace.
Without the Holy Spirit’s interpretation, we will fall into deception. “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1 Not too uncommonly when the Holy Spirit speaks, we don’t hear Him. It is because we need to listen, to seek God’s diagnosis, understanding, or interpretation.
