TEXT: EXODUS 19:1-9
1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
The covenant with literal Israel, Moses, and spiritual Israel today was, and is, made with boundaries. God ordained boundaries. Just as in the beginning with Adam and Eve, God’s requirements were to have His commands to be obeyed. That was the condition for His covenant with them then, and still for us today. God’s set conditions are to be obeyed fully, and is what will bring a blessing. But our motive must not be for the blessing, but in a full adoration and worship; to a God who paid for the covenant with the sacrifice of His Son Jesus’s blood. Because Jesus IS Worthy!! We must be careful that we don’ assume that our covenant is to make ourselves happy rather than that we see, obey, and worship in adoration the God Almighty Who only is Worthy.
If we obey with a willing heart of love, God will always keep His promises to us. Conditional promises. With a pre requisite of first being cleansed by His blood. Blood is what redeemed all things then, and still spiritually today. Paid in Christ’s blood to give power to live holy. To be set apart. To want just to be made happy is a humanistic trait, and the goal of Satan’s plan. Satan wants the church to want to be made happy in self, instead of crossing their “self” out, in favor of only honoring God and His Son Jesus. Our life’s only purpose should be to honor God! Although all have been given a choice, the reason you were created was to worship God. To come into a covenant with Him.
Merely believing is not sufficient. For then we miss the essence of the Covenant. If we don’t follow the “pattern” of the covenant, we will miss the blessing and power of that Covenant. The Covenant is what closes the gap between man and God. The Covenant will only come for us with our complete surrender in full humility. Only Christ’s blood will cleanse and seal our covenant with Him. When we are consecrated fully.
If you lose your reverence at any time of God, you break your covenant with Him. To avoid this, we need in love to obey and adhere to God’s boundaries. “Thus saith the LORD. Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls……” Jeremiah 6:16 The old paths were, and still are the boundaries that God, and not man has set. To find rest for your souls. A rest that can only be found in a Covenant with God. Rest from our own ways, and cleaving to the Covenant God seals when we love and obey Him.
