TEXT: MATTHEW 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
When God saves us, He keeps a roll, and writes it down in our account in Heaven. If you have one there, it’s because He saved you out of sin. Is your name written in that book of life? Our account will show whenever we have fulfilled the requirements to establish one in our earthly life, and even more about our spirituality. We all know somewhat the moral law of right and wrong. God instills that in each soul. God will either welcome us to Heaven, or say “depart from me, I never knew you, if we weren’t faithful.” 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7 Eternal things last beyond our mortal time. If we’ve lived right according to God, we will go to live where only right exist. If on the other hand, at that last judgment we have not lived right, we will go to to be forever where only the death of sin is found. For the wrong of sin, will not be allowed in God’s presence. There’s a difference in a mistake, (or an error of judgment), than making a conscious choice of doing wrong. God gives us each (while on earth), the time to correct our error. But if you stay knowingly in error, you will be separated from God. Is your name written down? Is your heart laying up treasures in heaven? Have you established an account in heaven?
There’s no way to sustain an account with God, without continually laying up treasures in heaven. You’re either laying up treasures with God, or you’re not. We must use it, to keep it active. If you don’t put deposits in, you will become overdrawn. You won’t have anything without putting in spiritual deposits. This is not something you can neglect and expect not to lose what you had. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and as confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3 We can’t hope to escape the loss of what God gave us, if we neglect to sustain it by keeping God first in our heart. If other things are allowed to become more important, those things are essentially as idols to us. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3 When we love God above all else, we will invest in Him, and lay up treasures in heaven. “Again the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who when he had found one great pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” Matthew 13:45, 46 So according to God’s word, we will need to sell all we have to able to possess the Salvation of our soul. All we have is self, which is as filthy rags. “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6 Everything of self, is in the way. It hinders us in the way of investing for our treasures in heaven. Sell everything you have; your affections, desires, your will, your way, hopes, dreams, or anything God can’t use, or that would conflict with His will for you. It’s a daily decision, and not just once upon a time!
If you don’t daily invest, you will become overdrawn. This is why God tells us to grow in grace! “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 These are investments, that will help to keep us from being overdrawn. Without depositing more of God’s will in our heart, we will be spiritually bankrupt! We must keep depositing over, and over. Daily, and continually. It must be hid in our heart. “Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11 If we take it for granted, we will instead of using our treasure, resort to the spending of self. This is how we become overdrawn.
Are you laying up treasures in heaven?
