TEXT: REVELATIONS  3:14-22

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Repenting of Repentance…..is a bad thing.  In the book of Revelations, there are seven trumpets, seals, ages; all symbolize the seven churches. The subject of this scripture is the seventh church, the Laodicean church.  This message was preached to the lukewarm condition of the Laodicean church, and not the world.  This Laodicean church age, represents any that have left (or repented of) their first state of conversion.   Paul had spent a lot of time at the church of Ephesus which was located …near the church of Laodicea.   The Laodicean church had been almost leveled by an earthquake.  Because of the church’s great wealth, they chose to rebuild without the help of other people. They also did so without interference of the Roman Empire.  Therefore they allowed some pride (as being special) because they had accepted no help, and had done it “on their own.”  This is where this letter finds this church…feeling self satisfied by their own recognition.

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?   Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Galatians 3:1,3  This is an additional example of those that had repented, of what they had repented of.  These had repented of their sins, so they could now obey the Spirit of God and the truth found in Jesus Christ.  But instead they later neglected the exhortations that God had given.  Instead of obeying the things of God and faith, they now were obeying the wisdom of the flesh, instead of the Spirit of Truth.   Just as with the church of the Laodiceans, they essentially had repented of repenting.  They had repented of that, which had convicted them to repent of sin. We need to buy the truth and sell it not.  “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom and instruction, and understanding.” Proverbs 23:23

We don’t belong to our self 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6  Bought with a price.”   When we forget this, we backslide, or “in principal” repent of our initial repentance.  Forgetting, and leaving to change our mind away from what God had transformed us to through Salvation, of selflessness, holiness, loving others more than ourselves.  We then become filled with our own ways and pride. We leave the principals of giving God the glory He is due.  We instead become satisfied with our self.  Not striving any more to listen for God’s leading for our ongoing spiritual growth. But becoming lukewarm and indifferent.  For to serve God, is to grow in Him.  And to grow in God, is to cast our cares and burdens on Him, since we are not meant to be self sufficient.  But if we repent of our initial repentance of sin and self through indifference, we backslide from these principals and helps.  We then lose our testimony that can offer hope and help to lost souls.  The Lord can again help you see clearly your need to return to obedience, if you have repented of your initial repentance of sin and self.

Are you repenting of something,  that you formally repented of?
