TEXT: GENESIS. 1:26-27, 2:7
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
It’s by design, and necessary, that God created us in His Image. Often people want to “create” God in their image. They sometimes, by their own opinions, decide that God is whatever that opinion is. In our creation, God places a “piece” of Himself in each human, making them a living soul. For God is life, “and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” God desires each …will also become like Him through Salvation. God made mankind physically out of the elements of the earth. Even the way we think is connected to this created earthly part of us. However the soul, is the ‘part’ not created, because God has bestowed on us a part of Himself. He breathed in us …Himself! He didn’t breathe into us the brain, or the body, which is created out of nothing! The soul though, is eternal, a part of God, and is meant for worshiping Him! This image of holiness was what Adam and Eve were created in. When they yielded to temptation, they fell away from this image of holiness. Which is why God sent His only begotten Son to die for mankind, so that through repentance, and Christ’s blood, they might be restored …to the image of God.
We must be willing to not live like we did before Salvation, to have the image of God. “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;” Ephesians 4:22 The human will is the strongest force in nature. Nothing can change a man’s mind, but himself. It is a choice. God will never impose Himself on a soul, for He has created all men, to have free will. All we need is to be willing to have God change us, and to put away the corruption of sin, (lying, stealing, etc.) to then be honored with the image of God. 31 “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4 Then God will be the dominating force in our life, instead of our own will. Then God can restore us to His Image. We all need for God to change us from a sinful condition. To then recreate us through a spiritual rebirth. To make us holy, as He is holy. In His Image.
