TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:17-24
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
We must no longer walk as before while in sin, in the vanity of our minds. Before we had no real restraint, with the spiritually blinded mind and eyes that had us, like with others, living with the uncleanness of sins. Verse 21, If you have heard, listened, and learned of Him with your heart, you will put off those former sinful ways (through Salvation), and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. You will essentially be made new. Better than new!
No matter the lack of worth anyone feels, we all have value with God! When God made all life, including man, He pronounced that it was very good! Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. But in order for God to make us better than new, from having been dead spiritually in sins, we must see our broken condition. Then He will be nigh to our hearts. “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalms 34:18
God has made it possible to begin again! To be better than new! There are some things that may be broken and no longer in use. These might potentially be thrown away that seem to no longer have value. And if not careful, we may become “stuck” in this same devalued mental context. But this is not God’s intent for our lives! That thought is a lie of the devil! Satan says that about everyone, including ‘us’ if we let him. The LORD loves us! He is not slack concerning the promises He has left us! “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 God desires us to allow Him to take our broken life, and make us anew, as clay in the potter’s hand. 3 Then I went down to the potters house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. 6 “O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” Jeremiah 18:3,4,6 Do I know the places marred in my life, that have to be worked out ? As we are spun on the wheel around us of life, with our neediness, …has it left us with “nicks” still in our clay? We can be more, …be better than new, …and ready for the Master’s use!
