TEXT: LUKE 2:25-32,37,38

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

37  And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

The Five W’s. 1) When?, 2) Where?,  3) What?,  4) Who?  5) Why?  We’re all ignorant.  Just about different things.   Everyone has been found in a place of “captivity.”  And of course God doesn’t want us to stay there.    Before Jesus came, everyone was expecting Him with the hope of His arrival!    But it was never so precious as the actual reality when He did!   When, where,  what, who, and why?    1)When?  This is the right question to ask first, and not;  2) where?,  which comes after.   The “When” happened when Jesus was born.  The “Where” happened, when the shepherds knew where to find Him!  Our burden should be that we can all know “when” God is, so we can know “where”, and to then know “who?”  Some say “what?” is God, but instead need to ask “Who?” This will lead to the “Why?”

In Luke 2, Simeon knew “where,” but was waiting for  the “when” of the coming of Jesus the Messiah.   This man was connected to God through the Holy Spirit being upon him (verse 25), but awaited for the Savior’s arrival in the flesh.    The “when” has arrived when I’m in the right place, to find out ..where?  Simeon and Anna were in the temple “when” Jesus showed up.  Simeon and Anna knew “where,” but needed to know the when. Are you in the right place?  I’m here, but need to get there.  If God is here, then I need to get to there where He is.  I need to be that close to God!  Right Where He Is!  Nothing between.  “Close enough,” is not truly close, and not good enough.   Do you know “where” you are?   Can you locate yourself?  Are you in God’s presence?   In Isaiah 49:21-26   “What?”  The Israelite’s were in exile and bondage, in the nation of their enemies.  Just as today, there are many (all of us at one time or another) when we know we have done wrong.  Often the solution taken is to go to church to get free from sin.  Right idea.  Wrong approach.  Even if at first you are “right” in your heart, but then you lose your focus on Christ,  you still become captive to sin even though you attend church.   Exile= is to be not where God is.   And God will not dwell with sin.  Where sin is, God is not present.   If I choose to disobey, I remove myself from God’s presence.   Sin is a choice.  Am I present with God now?  We need to answer that question.    Today there are too many that say “there is no God.”    The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.  They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.’  Psalms 14:1   The world sees God’s commandments as being from a “petty law giver.”  God’s people and or children know God’s love, and don’t see God’s commands as petty.  We all need to be careful to revere God’s Word so we won’t become as fools, making us captive to sin.   All need to be careful.  If you allow yourself to leave the presence of God,  you will become a captive to the bondage and exile of sin’s spiritual darkness.

In Exodus 3:14  Moses was timid in speech, and asked what he should tell Pharaoh, of “who” had sent him? “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”  God described Himself with a “When” question ” I AM.”  (When).  God is the God of When.   Trials and tribulations will separate us from the the now and when. When always leads to where.  “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelations  1:8    We must move to be present with God.  Many of the world consider God to not be anything.  Then they can never get to the when. They wonder “Why” am I suffering?  A lot of “why’s?”   Job asked a lot of those why questions.   But Job then became close to God,  It answered the what, and why.   Are you present with God?

Repentance to receive forgiveness is the way to be present with God.
