TEXT: REVELATIONS. 1:7-8
7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Here, the Apostle John is receiving Jesus’s prophecy. (Revelations 1:1,2) Many years, and the other disciples, …have passed on. In this severe trial, John is banished and alone on this isle of Patmos, and in the ‘Spirit, on the Lord’s Day. This is where he is. This is what he is going through. The reality is that God shows us, that He is with us in these setbacks. Jesus tells us, “I Am, …the resurrection, the way, the truth, the life!” These things are all so encompassing! But…who am I? “Lord help us to know who we really are!” Revelations 1:9-20 The “I Am”….came to John! The blaring trumpeted voice and authority of Jesus …caused John to be “at attention!” The “I Am” was visiting! The “I Am,” the only One that matters, is speaking, (to John, to You, or to whoever.)! The “I Am” wants us to tell others!! “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. ” Revelations 1:18 “I Am” … didn’t say He would remove John from the trial. You may wrestle with the who “I AM is, …but later you will need to know the answer to the question of …”but who am I ?” Often we think we know ourselves….but we aren’t always answering self-questions realistically. We might think of ourselves in one of many different “definitions,” based on where life takes us, …instead of what our core actually is. Sometimes God calls us to do what we don’t identify with. Yet…we need to answer that call, and let God lead us to where we don’t “fit” humanly. If we try to reason it out, it won’t make any human sense. For God’s calling will often take us in an opposite way.
So, who’s the real us? Is it our humanity? Or is it who God calls, and uses us to be? “All things are become new.” “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Who am I? Jesus called John, to what was, not what John was (humanly). John, …so what would he be? Would John be of the human characteristics, ….but of the calling Jesus leads us to be? We need to own our humanity, …but do I know what that is? If you are, or aren’t saved, you don’t always know who you really are. This was John’s situation. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 Paul was beginning to grasp who he was. I am…crucified. Christ liveth in me, while in the flesh…I live by the faith of the Son of God. The only thing that matters! I am crucified (I live holy) ! What is God’s calling …for you? Unless you know ….you will be wandering through life. Individually, many are wrestling with who they are. Religion is so mixed up! They actually think the ‘Great I Am’ is married to a ‘harlot of religions!’ (“And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. REVELATIONS 17:5) Many of which are becoming more obviously empty. Nothing secure in God’s purity. And if not careful, we will also go through life, not knowing who we really are. “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5 God is always calling us to do something. Everyone of us are being called for His purpose. To ignore that is a form of being a reprobate, (although there are more extreme descriptions/definitions of reprobate, one is to be unprincipled..or without real purpose). “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 Unless you humble yourself, allow God to form you, instruct you, inspire you, you will wrestle and not be a part of the Kingdom of God. Is it our intention Today, to listen and follow God’s calling? In Acts 19:13-16, there were some that took it upon themselves to cast out devils in Jesus name. But they did not have the authority of Christ. The evil spirits did not recognize their power over them. “And the devil answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Acts 16:15. When you meet a spiritual bully, do you know who you are? Many are called, but not all respond. Whether you’re saved, or not,..God is always calling.
Have you answered the call? Jesus said, “I AM”….Who are you?
