TEXT: PSALMS 139:1-8, 23,24
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners, and it came even to me:
6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter, slay and eat.
8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
God knows everything about us! There is no where we can escape Him. It can be a recipe for a good life! We are still trying to figure out life, though we don’t. Those who think they know everything, are often annoying to those “who do.” lol Too often we forget where we come from. Don’t ever forget! We don’t really have a leg to stand upon! When we are not close to God, He’s “small” and far away. He instead desires to be close and present. Psalms 139:23, 24 In Acts 5:5-10, Peter had a vision. God was asking Peter to share the gospel, with the Gentiles as well as with the Jews. Peter was still of the mentality of the Old Testament God given laws, which didn’t include anyone really outside of Israel (Jews), and so Peter was very resistant. God kept the rules for the Jews. But God here, is changing the rules for, and to the Gentiles; for they here represent the uttermost part of the earth. The reason for this message, is we all go through seasons of our life when it becomes turbulent and upsetting. What are we going to do with it? A fulfillment in life is to know who, and where we are, (know thyself). Too often people choose a selfish way to “know thyself.” Discovering for themselves, as opposed to seeking what God thinks about it. Peter became connected, when he came to know Jesus. He then backslid, but later repented. We are all much like Peter. Peter is being asked to do what was opposite to what was taught in the law. So Peter said “no,” to God. Although earlier in Jesus’s crucifixion, Peter had denied Jesus, (so backslid), here he is not choosing to forsake Him. But he is resistant to what he does not understand. He is conflicted! We have all been conflicted, where God asks something that is contrary to what we have known. And all of us have been examined to see where our faith is. Our faith will be examined to discover what we have been taught. Launching out, is part of being human in life. Things can become confusing. Milestones, and a season of change comes. A “Peter at the sheet” moment!
Is God close and present? Nose to nose? Or is He small and far away? What we do, is that change that will affect others. Today, young people are often having trouble “launching.” Jesus is still our Salvation. We all have this need in our lives, to launch. God is saying, “I can help you launch.” There are two ways. The straight and narrow, with life eternal. Or, the broad way, to spiritual death. Sometimes the young are expected to leave behind “what has been,” but we all still need God to launch us where we didn’t plan on. We can be led by God if we will follow. We can choose from this great gulf of this worldly earth spiritually, or to where this Salvation is, within His kingdom. A time of launching without natural direction, when surrounded all around by life’s challenges. The purpose of this message, is how we can launch for our spiritual benefit, to also help others. Is living in sin, your best shot? It’s not good enough! There is no real choice, until Jesus speaks to our soul. Only He can give us purpose and power, ..to give us a direction “on the straight and narrow.” Jesus will launch us. But we must desire and allow Him to! Yet there will still be the conflict of how we were raised, in the natural. Are you interested in the “opinion” of God? It’s important that you are! God has “the plan of Salvation” for each of our every needs, if we listen. If we keep God close, ..not small and far away.
13 Enter ye in the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7
Is God Far Away For You? Or Close and Present? Know Thyself!
