TEXT: ROMANS 3:23-31
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Paul is trying to help us understand, largely, a comparison and contrast of the law of Moses, and that of Christ. The old being replaced by the new. Two different laws, one fulfills the other. Two different laws, or different codes, and what these codes will do for us. For Jesus came not to destroy the law of the prophets, but to fulfill them. For everything is fulfilled by the law/code of Christ We would now like you to think about three laws, or codes,and their differences, and how they compare with the law of Moses. The one we need to remember, is the Christian code, or the law of Christ. How the world looks at these different laws/codes, from the beginning, and how we look at these codes to solve our problems. In the issues of ultimate concern, in where “the rubber meets the road.” How we live by them, will be displayed in our daily lives, from the codes that control us when inspected by God by His Word. Jesus illustrates His code to measure us in, Matthew 25: 31-46: He likens us to sheep or goats. Sheep follow, but goats resist control. He said those as sheep were like His followers that assisted the needy by reaching out to them with help. “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat. I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger. and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me . Matthew 25:35,36 We have no access to Christ’s “code”, until we measure to what is illustrated here in spirit. It is what Christ will judge us by. Just as in society, we must measure to it’s codes or laws, to successfully function within it. And we are not only required to comply with society’s laws and codes, but even more to Christ’s codes. That Christian code ultimately will be our final inspection that will not still give us more time to correct our readiness or not, to be accepted at Christ’s final judgement. The summation of the codes Christ will also measure us by, is to love thy neighbor as thyself.
These are the three layman’s terms of laws or codes in existence. 1) Self 2) Societal 3) God’s law. Each of us will adopt …of these codes. Codes #1 & # 2 will not be adopted by those living under Christ’s codes/laws (#3). The Christian will adopt the law of God. Each of us makes decisions, affecting how we determine our behavior. Hopefully our behavior is chosen according to Christ’s life codes. Yet we could ultimately find ourselves living by other than Christ’s codes, even if we don’t don’t assume that. These codes are what determines how we build our spiritual house. The law of society determines our law of decree. God’s law has authority to inspect and pass our spiritual house Spiritually speaking, Laws #1 & #2 are not subject to Christ’s codes/laws (#3). Christ’s codes are based only on God’s Word. The scripture is the authority of the code of Christ. It is how we understand Christ! Christ’s code inspector, The Holy Spirit, enters the “building.” This only is how we can live for, and up to Christ’s code. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22: 37-40 You cannot combine the codes of self (mammon), and that of Christ’s to live the Christian code. “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24 Only the code of Christ creates eternal life.
