TEXT: PSALMS 107:28-30
28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the part of the ship, asleep on a pillow and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
In the natural, a storm is usually a violent and dangerous encounter. But there is also today, a storm that is “the chatter.” All of it interferes living in the quiet. In the interactions between God and humanity. Of the presence of God close and personal, or small and faraway. Not living in the past or the future. The solution is interacting in an active way between God and humanity, and not inactively. Some in error assume, that God is just the grand organizer of the universe, and doesn’t really interact with us, or intervene personally. But that’s not what the bible teaches, and it is actually dangerous to see God that way. Like the velocity of a storm, “data” which occupies the world we live in today, often increases in our lives as an ever increasing “chatter.” So for that reason, it’s important that we stay close to God. So that it’s fresh everyday. If it starts to get “stale,” the chatter starts to take over….that running of “the tape” in our minds. It’s just “white noise,” and a story that keeps playing in our thoughts. So eventually God’s voice becomes far away, or distant. The world wants you to “purchase” all that the chatter entails. The worldly “noise and the worldly bits and data of self.” Today those “bits” of necessarily anything, doesn’t even last more than a second in our minds, which tries to make sense of it. Not of anything that the world tries to build upon in values; the older thinking theirs is better than the younger, and vice versa. And …the cycle repeats itself. Both try to define what it is to be human. This is part of the chatter. Those that find themselves in the storm will always cry to the Lord in the chatter of their troubles. Many cry out today that God is no longer here. When the minds of the world become occupied by wicked thoughts, they may try to “build boundaries” around it. But the problems increase, when they try to “legislate” it. When the world lets it’s values down, there’s no way to solve the errors when they leave God out.
Don’t let yourself get caught up in the chatter. Chatter is of the world, and will cause us to not hear the voice of God. This is symbolized in 1 Kings 19: 9-12 9)”And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? 10) And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away. 11) And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind and earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12) And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. The raging elements of the storm represents the “chatter.” The still small voice, is the quiet that only comes from being close to God. God is not in the noise of the world. But God will quiet the noise, so you can hear Him. The peace is in the quiet. God still wants us to find Him, in that quiet place from the storm, or chatter of the world. If you find yourself momentarily disconnected, you need to be concerned! Be concerned, if you haven’t found a quiet place with God for awhile, or a long time. If you stay there, you will no longer be able to hear God in the quiet place from the storm. “Lord help me find the quiet place from the storm, away from the chatter.” Defeat the enemy, take your ground back that the enemy has taken from you.
Jesus Quiets The Storm, …and “the Chatter.”
