TEXT:JOHN 17:9-11, 20,21
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
The Spirit of Unity. Christ prayed that all could have unity. First He prayed for His disciples, but then also for all of us. He prayed for our deliverance from sin. And then to have His Spirit within. So that we could be one with Him. To be consecrated to have His power, to be able to live this life free from sin and pleasing to Him. Victoriously, and not subject to defeat. Not just one with each other, but with oneness with Him. Oneness with God. It starts here, (being made one with God) so that we can have a oneness with one another. The Spirit of Unity. Relationships that are founded upon God only, will last, to then be one as a body, with no divisions.among us, wherever God’s children are found. The Oneness is to express the Will and Spirit of God. The Spirit of God doesn’t always make itself forcibly known, …sometimes it’s a still small voice. Those times when the Spirit of God is strong, it will overcome the spirit of the enemy, and of sin. There are many spirits in the world, and among them is The Spirit of God, which is the strongest! We might wonder sometimes, “Why does God’s voice seem to be not more visible or louder then the many voices of the earth?” But you should never sell short God’s voice which is the strongest in the universe! We need to appreciate the gravity (or unity) of God, no matter how little understood it might be. It is, that which holds us together! We must not take it for granted! Without the Spirit of God we would all be nothing, nor build the Church of God, …much less have any unity! You don’t have to, and must not, conform to religion, for unity alone is created by the Spirit of God. Unity will come when you you seek and want it with all your heart, soul, and mind. When you are a seeker of truth! If you say you want truth, but also want the world, you are living a lie. Vanity.
In Ephesians 4: 3 “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” This is the only place the actual word unity is found. But this scripture and unity is important, in all things, that the will of God, your relationships, and the church, are all united in Christ. There has to be unity in the family, and marriages, etc. to be held together. Yet unity is not well understood and practiced. If we have fellowship within the light of God, we have fellowship together. The sum of the whole, is greater than individuality. The strength of the circle of connection, is with the whole being connected together, and not all alone. A spiritual connection with The Almighty God in Heaven….that is the strongest possible connection. In Acts 8:26-38, the Spirit of God led Phillip in the desert to approach a eunuch of the Ethiopians who was reading without understanding in the book of Esaias (Isaiah). Philip asked the man if he understood, and the man acknowledged that he didn’t. So God led Philip to instruct this man in that scripture. The Spirit was allowed to lead, and the man did not hesitate, and desired to be baptized, in a spot where some water was found. The leading was of The Spirit of Unity. The Spirit would not have led, if the eunuch had not first believed. Later this eunuch took back this testimony to his own Queen of Ethiopia and their people, to continue the circle of unity. The Spirit of Unity. In order to have a strong connection (unity) you also have to believe and want it. We have this personal accountability, it does not depend on others to blame, but also on our own desire and determination to be and stay connected. Unity. When there is a disconnect, causing us to “unravel,” that falls to our accountability. We cannot honestly fault another. It takes our personal desire to put God first. Submission, obedience. Then, “the Spirit of Unity.” We cannot honestly claim to have it, if we cannot get along with someone. The Spirit of Unity. It’s not found in a mere religious affiliation, conviction, or emotion. But only in the Spirit of Unity with God and His people. Disputes threaten unity. Resolving disputes strengthens unity! Disputes? Reconcile! Are you united with the Spirit of God?
