TEXT:MARK 10:46-52
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Where does it hurt? It’s not that Jesus didn’t know, but wanted blind Bartimaeus to recognize and locate where it hurt. Who knows the painful state of life Bartimaeus was going through? Where was his family one might wonder? We can only wonder. Just as Jesus wanted Bartimaeus to understand his condition, Jesus wants us also to realize where we each are, in our individual needs. Religion can hurt you. Not God, …but religion! Too many unfairly, and incorrectly blame God, because of religion. Where does it hurt? What is bringing the hurt about? Trauma, abuse, your path in sin?
Mark 2:17 The scribes and Pharisees found fault because Jesus sat with publicans and sinners. Jesus answered “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Jesus came to make each whole, spiritually and physically! May God’s Word find whatever ails you and heal you! Emotionally, mentally, physically! Often to be helped, you have to first be hurt. Sometimes God has to hurt us, for us to find out where the real source of the pain is. Healing is not only of the need physically or mentally, but of sometimes of some personal prejudice God is not accepting of. God will heal those prejudices also, by convicting the heart of their spiritual lack of wisdom. How many of us have prejudices, that God wants us to accept His chastisement for, so we can be healed and freed from it. Where does it hurt? Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.” If you are set in your ways, hard or cynical …not good! But if you’re humble, and easily entreated, God can help you! People need the Lord!
