TEXT: MATTHEW. 14:13-21
13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18 He said, Bring them hither to me.
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
What would you personally do this moment, for everyone that you encounter to get their needs met? No one needs to go away empty! Do you desire God to lead you in a more personal way? Are you willing to make yourself vulnerable? The disciples had just returned from being where Christ had sent them out to work with souls, and had heard that John the Baptist had been beheaded. Potentially Jesus had told them. They, with all their labors for the gospel, were very weary. Jesus instructed that they should travel privately by boat to go into a desert place for a much needed rest. But many of the multitudes had observed them, where they departed to, and outran them on foot, to arrive where Jesus and the disciples had gone. And when Jesus saw them, He was moved with compassion because they were as sheep without a shepherd, and so He began to teach them many things. The day became late, and the disciples told Jesus to send the crowds away since there were no places to buy food nearby. Instead, Jesus told them to give the people something to eat. When the disciples pointed out that there was nothing to eat for such a size crowd, Jesus inquired what food that they did have available. They replied 5 loaves and 2 small fishes. So Jesus instructed to have the people to sit down in groups of hundreds, and fifties. Jesus then blessed the food, and they all ate, 5,000 men, with their families!. And they all ate and were filled! Then they took up the leftover fragments, 12 baskets FULL! This biblical miracle is the only one found in all 4 gospels! Such a vital message, of that no matter what our needs are, no matter how dark things might seem, or are, God has what we need! We never have to go away empty! You don’t have to leave disappointed!
Jesus saw how the people had desperately followed, and He had compassion on them! Christ never lost an opportunity to teach a lesson through these profound events in life. He wants us to be filled, and then to share so others can also be filled by Him. We never need to be empty. When our world is spinning out of control, heartache, loneliness, when we’ve made unwise decisions, when grief has left us empty…. He knows just how to feed and give us what we need! He blesses us with help and miracles according to our needs. All that have been saved out of sin, are a miracle! This is not a message to keep to ourselves. It is a testimony that we must share. It is a message that makes us aware of our commission to help others in need to hear what God has done for us. To share so that others might have their needs filled. So no one need to be empty!
