TEXT: ECCLESIASTES  12:13-14

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Where or how do we find meaning in life?  Vanity, all is vanity (Ecclesiastes 1:2). It is like a confusing mist, sometimes so unclearBut God will bring everything into focus, if we Fear God and keep His commandments.”  It is difficult to arrive at this conclusion, unless we have a leap of faith.  In our COG Hymnal (page 424), within the song “Twas Sung by The Poets,”  ..there is a line that reads  “the mists of confusion are passing away.”   The thought intended (in this older hymn) was that the confusion of religion would no longer keep holding men and women captive. The Lord was blowing the mist of confusion away, and revealing His Church.  It has a prophetic, church related thought.  “Fear God. Keep Him holy.  Keep His commandments. ” What does that mean?   What does commandment mean to us, in our day?  It meant the law, in the times of Moses…..but in our gospel day it means more also our covenant with Jesus Christ.  What does it mean, “The conclusion of the matter?”  Fear God, revere God, keep His commandments, keep Him holy!   Sometimes you can find yourself in the “valley of the shadow of death,” (Psalms 23:4), or confusion, “when the mist of confusion have not all passed away, in a personal way. (not meant in a theological doctrinal way of salvation or concerning the church) but personally.”  In a confusion that sometimes good people find themselves asking God “where do I go from here?”  It is this scripture then, that we also need to find or hear the conclusion of the matter,” for us today.  In the midst of the vanities of life today, to find the meaning of life today.  Sometimes we can’t see clearly the next step we should take.  Surrounded by vanity and the meaning of life, “the push and pull,” there can be a bit of confusion there.  There’s a bit of “cloudy”….”Lord I can’t see the next step I must take,”  while trying to reach for meaning.

John 14:21  “He that hath my commandments,  and keepeth them,  he it is that loveth me:  and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,  and I will love him, and manifest myself unto him.  Not enough to know His commandments,  but we must love and obey them.  And to show ourselves approved,  we must study His word    (2 Timothy 2:15).  But that doesn’t necessarily create a relationship, but only when we additionally to do them.  You might think, “I know I must follow or obey His commandments, but still sometimes I cannot see clearly the next step I must take.”  This is the relationship God desires with us,  to love and obey Him, and His word.  “If a man love me, he will keep my words….” John 14:23    And it’s then not just a decision to do “some things,” one: to love the Lord with all my heart, and second: to love my neighbor as myself.” Matthew 22:36,39  We need to cohabitate with God!  And then, ..to have a burden for other people.  As the world progresses through the ages, the second commandment is harder to observe, because the world is more inner focused.  It’s a “I” and “me” generational thing.  And outward focus that has evolved to an inner focus. This is why the commandment is “to love thy neighbor as thyself.”  How do I maintain this intimate relationship with God?  For each one that is saved, will desire it!   This is the burden of the Church, although it is becoming harder and harder.  You desperately want to see God’s face, although it’s harder when you’re in a “fog.”  Sometimes you can’t find your way out, discouraged, weariness, confusion can be a reality, or Christ would not need to exhort us. Some might “claim” that they are ever confused “in a mist.”   Well you are in a “race!”    Any can get caught off the way,  although that is not God’s desire!   “For God is not the Author of confusion,  but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”  I Corinthians 14:33   God will help us not to be confused!    Fear God. Love God above all. Keep His commandments!   All else is vanity.

This Is The Conclusion of The Matter….
