TEXT: PSALMS 107:1-7
1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
Oh give thanks to our Lord, for in mercy God has purchased us and has gathered us from the east. west. north and the south, out from the spiritual enemy’s hand! So His people might go to a “city of habitation.“ Our enemy is not with the government or any literal people, but a spirit who opposes God’s Word. “Looking for a villain” will take away your thanksgiving, and will thwart you from being an effective testimony. It isolates you and causes you to not help souls that are lost. We must see both sides of opinions and should not be critical, for God wants us to know that they are potentially His people. If we win them to Him. Treat the stranger like as God’s people though it hasn’t yet happened. Because we need to see strangers potentially as God’s people,. That needs to be our burden and mission. 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. But in verse 9 “He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” And did He deliver them for a short time, and only part way out? No! He fully delivers, …and all the way out. He doesn’t stop or ever fail in doing so!
He will deliver us from us from our distresses, when we trust Him to! “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,“….are the first words of verses 8, 15, 21, and 31 in this same chapter. This admonition is meant even more for the times …just like we are in now. It is the distress that causes people to cry to God, …who will lead them to safety. In these times, it’s on our mind about the distress that is all around us. We don’t know the future, and we could find ourselves as distressed as the world. “They wandered in the wilderness“……verse 4. “They” (the world) wander in a fragile way, for that’s what sin does to souls. But God is calling His people to His city of habitation,… Zion! “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:3 In our distresses we need to learn to be meek and flexible, to help us look more to God, in order also to help other souls as a community
Who shall separate us from God? 35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
