TEXT: JOHN 20:11-17

11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping:and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre.

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus lain.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and sway Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and to my God, and your God.

The 3rd day, in the tomb, He arose.  He then met Mary. She wanted to care for His body, but that first day doesn’t find Jesus, because her eyes were not “opened”to recognize Him. She thinks he is the gardener, or caretaker, until He calls her name! When He called her by her name, “Mary.”  She immediately knew who He was!  Something had happened that made her aware of her Lord!  Do we listen when Jesus calls our name?

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  John 1:14  The Word was made flesh. This flesh is really defined as Easter Sunday!. King of Kings! Lord of Lords!  Above all! This man walked the earth, teaching, but was now at His life’s earthly conclusion. He died on the cross as the substitute for our sins! It was critical that He die for us, to deliver us. Then arose 3 days later from the dead.  So God Who was manifested in the flesh, then raised Himself from the dead. Resurrection! Giving the knowledge that we too can be raised to life! It was critical that He die, so we could be raised. By our obedience to the Word, we too can be part of the resurrection!  A life resurrected out of sin! The significance of this encounter we can have! Imagine how it might change us…and does! There are so many false claims and doubts today about this miraculous occurrence.

Many saw Him die, but now He’s alive again!!  Mary also saw Him die, but now hears Him call her name, “Mary!”  Imagine, her utter despair, and hopelessness! We also, like her, have been here, and like her also can have no doubts, but instead hope!  To be made whole again! You just need a kernel of faith!
