Trust is reliance on the integrity of a person or thing. You may go through life thinking you just know, but you might find out that you didn’t know. If your trust has been affected in a negative way and you have not sought to repair it, you are in a vulnerable position. It doesn’t matter how smart you are. Someone who doesn’t have a proper amount of trust is like a baby zebra on the edge of a herd. They are not in a strong position. When trust has been injured and you feel that vulnerability you must get hold of God and know how to heal that trust. You must be able to trust God. We need to learn to rely heavily upon God. The most valuable relationship we have is our relationship with God. We must put a lot of time and effort into nourishing and deepening that relationship. That is where our safety really is.

A lie can destroy ones who have a shallow relationship with God. Many people followed Christ, but when he was crucified, many left. Why? Things were said and done that moved the people. The scribes said Jesus was a fake and many people believed that lie. A lot of people were moved away from Jesus. They didn’t know him that well and they were not close to him. After Jesus was ressurected the chief preist conjured up a lie to keep the people from believing that Jesus was truly risen from the dead:

“And when they were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave large sums of money unto the soldiers, saying, say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while he slept. And if it come to the govenors ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.” Matt 28:12-15

This was one of the most successful lies ever told and it is still believed by some today. After a major revival had happened, the day of Pentecost, it could not break the lie. A lie works on those who don’t know how to value and nurture and to put effort into their relationship with God. If you cannot get into the word and bring out something to help others you have been too casual about the word of God. You must build that established confidence of your belief; you’ve studied, you’ve prayed over it, and you’ve proven it in your life. That is how trust is established- by building proofs of God and his word into your very core belief.

There was a man who would write the initials TP next to scriptures in his bible. It meant that he had ‘tried and proven‘ those scriptures. He was not casual about trusting God. He was building proof of God and his word into his core belief. He could then know when it got challenged it wouldn’t be shaken.

Is there something still unsettled with you? Is there something where a trust was undermined and still has not been resolved? When something has affected you, you must be in earnest about resolving it. If something is unresolved, it is not ok. It will not go away until you take care of it. Otherwise, you are not ready to face anything that would challenge it.

And where are you in terms of other people being able to trust you? Are you someone that others can have confidence in to ask to help and pray? What is your spiritual depth that people can have in you? This should be very, very important to us. We need to value our experience and the integrity of our experience.
