Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

It is vitally important what we believe. God doesn’t want us to think we can live in sin and somehow make it to heaven when we die. Jesus came and died on the cross that we might be delivered from sin. To sin, is to willingly go against the word and will of God.

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:11

Today there are false prophets everywhere deceiving many. Anyone that does not teach the pure word of God, with the whole message of salvation, sanctification and holy living is a false prophet.

But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22

The only way that we can be sure we are not deceived is if we read the Bible, asking God to help us to know the truth and then to do what God shows us.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

If you think you know it all and will serve God your way, you will be deceived. We must lift the word of God up above every other idea out there. If we don’t, we will pick up strange ideas and be deceived.

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Obadiah 1:3

Pride will keep a person from repenting- admitting they are lost and undone and are in need of God’s mercy. Pride causes one to say in his heart, “Who shall bring me down to the ground?”; That is to say, “I am okay. Look at my position in life? I am set up good.” Pride has deceived that person’s heart, for there is not one person that has not sinned and has need to repent and humble them selves before God.

If you are deceived, by humbling yourself before God, confessing your sins to him and accepting the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ to atone- or wash all your sins away, and then by trusting God to help you stay free from sin, God will open your eyes to the truth of his word, and you will no longer be deceived; Instead, you will be a true child of God.

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; Titus 3:3-6
