We have an enemy that is there 24/7 and he is never a friend, but is always an adversary.
I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
The devil slanders, injures people by malicious slander. He slanders God, Jesus, the Bible, truth, doctrine, the character of Christians and he defames everything. He is not like God. God was where there is no beginning and no end. God always has been. The devil was created by God. The devil was not an angel that rebelled and was kicked out of heaven.
Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
The devil was a created being and was not like the angels. The angels in heaven were created to do God’s will. They weren’t created like us, with a choice to choose whether we obey God’s will or not. Jesus was born like us with a will and a choice of whether he would obey God. He wasn’t created like the angels in heaven, but was able to live a sin free life because he chose to. Jesus has given us power to live without sin if we’re saved (we repented and have forsaken our sins), if we love God with all of our heart, and we choose not to sin. God created all things, by him and for him. God created the devil so we could choose whether we love God, to not sin or to disobey God. Satan is not self-existent. He is completely inferior to God. He does not rule beyond the boundaries God has created for him.
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
Satan didn’t say he was an angel but that he was walking to and fro in the earth. The devil was in the garden of Eden in the very beginning. When God created man and the animals in the very beginning, he created the devil. In the garden the devil was called the serpent. He’s the same today as he was in the garden with the same spirit, motives, devices, but he’s limited in his power by God.
Job 1:8-11 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
The devil may come to you because God permits it, but there is a limit to what he can do because of God. He is not sovereign but can only do what God tells him or gives permission to do.
Job 1:12 2 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
God used the devil to try Job because he had confidence in Job, but Job had to be tried. God has confidence in the saints, but they have to be tried. God does not try us with evil but the devil does. God allows it but he has given us power over all the power of the enemy if we love God with all of our heart. The devil can not affect us unless we give him power to do so. The saying that “the devil made me do it” is a lie because if we sin it’s because we chose to sin. A husband can’t make a wife sin, a wife can’t make a husband sin, children can’t make their parents sin, parents can’t make their children sin. If they’re serving God with all their heart, regardless of what form the devil uses, he can’t get people to sin but it is their choice.
I John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
The devil is the ruler of this world. When we get saved God is with us to give us power and when we’re sanctified the Holy Spirit is in us to give us more power, so we don’t have to sin or obey the devil. The devil didn’t tell the truth and never tells the truth. When he said Job would curse God to his face, after all he suffered Job was still convinced to serve God, so he fell down and worshipped. He didn’t sin and didn’t charge God with what happened.
Job 1:20-22 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
There may come a time when God says to Satan have you considered my servant “you put your name there,” they’re righteous and hold fast their integrity (right standing with God and holy living). If God allows the enemy to put his finger on you, are you determined to stand regardless of what you have to go through? Job is proving he loves God above possessions and above his own life. We’ve got to prove the same thing and stand the tests. There will be times when our possessions and our family will be taken from us, when things afflict us physically. Are we going to charge God that we’re sick? Or are we going to stand and be like Job, worshiping God regardless of our situations? We have to prove the devil is lying by continuing to worship and serve God, even if we’re not healed.
Job 2:1-6 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
Job was scraping his boils because he was in such pain. His wife asked if he was still going to retain his integrity and why didn’t he just curse God. The devil was using her to discourage Job. We need to be careful that the words that come out of our mouth aren’t being used by the devil.
Job 2:10 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
Job would not charge God foolishly even though he was in pain, lost his children, had been wealthy and lost it all.
Job 2:10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
Job was physically hurting and in misery but refused to charge God foolishly. Don’t let the devil get you to charge God foolishly when things aren’t going the way you want them to go. God is allowing the enemy to test what is inside us. Will we prove true like Job did? Job went through a long trial, over months, but in the end God blessed Job with twice as much as he had and with 10 more children. It didn’t happen overnight but he stayed true. God blessed him over and over again. Are you willing to go through the hard trial months or years, determined to stay true and not give up your righteousness? No matter what happens, no matter what you lose, no matter whether things are going the way you want? The devil is our adversary, and we’re fighting a battle. The devil does not care about you. All he wants is your soul to go to hell. If you get a wrong attitude toward the things that are going against you, you will start playing into the devil’s hand. God wants us to keep a right attitude regardless of the things that are going against us. He wants us to be like Job, though the Lord let things be taken away, Job determined he wouldn’t sin. He said, “though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15).
Job 23:8-11 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him…But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
God wants a people to stand regardless of the hard trials, or what comes against us. He wants us to stay sweet in our soul, and keep the commandments of God. Did Job feel like it? He did not feel like it according to how the flesh felt. We’re serving God by faith not by our feelings.
The devil causes panic, confusion, he’s a common enemy to everyone, he’s cunning, he’s confident that he’s going to find someone to affect. He’s a roaring lion and expects to find someone who’s weak, who doesn’t read their Bible every day or pray every day, that wants to do their own thing and think it doesn’t matter.
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Jesus said God was not the father of the Jews because they didn’t believe in Jesus, did not love him, and were trying to kill him. A multitude of people today are saying God is my father but they don’t keep Jesus’ commandments. If people sit in the congregation of the Church of God and aren’t obedient to the word, then God is not their father.
John 8:37-42 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them,If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them,If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
If we love Jesus, we will understand the word of God in the Bible. If we don’t have a real experience of salvation and only have a profession, the word is going to be hard to understand. The reason is that God is not their father.
John 8:43-4 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The devil was a murderer from the beginning and could never have been in heaven, but people that say God is their father when he isn’t will also say the devil was in heaven. They like to think that the devil was in heaven because they want to believe that sinners will go to heaven. No one will make it to heaven if there’s sin in their heart and they’ve never repented of it. If God cast Eve out of the garden of Eden for one disobedience, is he going to let people go to heaven with lying, cheating, stealing, cursing, and putting idols before God? We either love God the Bible way or God is not our father. God wants people to see the devil is their father if they have sin in their life, or they will continue in sin and only be religious minded. When the devil is their father, people act like him and will sin. We will love Jesus and act like Jesus if God is our father. We will trust in God’s word, not the ways of religion.
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The devil doesn’t have anyone’s best interest at heart, he’s a liar, he’s cruel and mean. One of the biggest things he does is deceive people in false religion to believe they can sin and still be a child of God. There are many false religions but they don’t agree with the word of God, so it is a false religion and the devil is the author of it. The devil has lots of ministers in false religion going about in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are wolves. We need to love the truth above everything else and make sure that our heart is pure, with no sin there.
