We need to strive – to really work at – oneness or unity.

Isaiah 2:1-4…And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Oneness: being one, single, individual, being parts that form the whole, concord or harmony between parts. We have oneness and fellowship by walking in the light and the blood of Jesus cleansing our sin.

I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If our hands or feet weren’t connected, where would we be? We have to stay connected and work at unity to maintain that experience. The Marines have a saying, “Got your six.” It means I’ve got your back or I’m watching out for you.

Romans 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

The word is the bread and the body. If we’re not partaking of the word of truth, we won’t see eye to eye (Isaiah 52:8).

I Corinthians 10:17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

The word says, “Let this mind be in you” – the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5). Souls that are washed in the blood of Christ and walking in light will have fellowship. Holiness and living free of sin give us unity.

I Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by…our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

There may be differences of administration between congregations, but we have fellowship because we’re walking in the light. True unity produces fellowship. “Be” and “let” are command words. If we’re going to live right, we have to do it and live it. If we do our own thing, are we one in Christ? Are we independent and pulling off to do our own thing?

II Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Endeavoring means you have to work at unity and oneness. We need to work at love in our homes. The enemy wants us to bite and devour each other and not to have unity.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Standing fast in one spirit with one mind takes effort. Sometimes we have to overlook things in people. We all have our own personalities and idiosyncrasies or quirks that may rub some the wrong way. We have to forbear so we keep unity and oneness. No matter what quirks we have, we can have unity with each other and have one mind – the mind of Christ.

Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

The saints of the family of God are there to help when there’s a need. The Old Testament shows examples of this.

Exodus 17:12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him…and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

God’s people are knit together to battle the enemy.

Judges 20:11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

We’re knit together in the love of God and in one mind. There’s no love like the love of the saints being knit together.

Philippians 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Colossians 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

Thieves can’t come in to steal or unravel the love of God that knits us together. All kinds of people come together in unity and oneness. The conditions for fellowship are that we walk in the light and take the word of God to live it. The love of God brings us together in fellowship when we let the word correct us. It’s important to dig into the word and come to services so we can have the correction through the word that we need.

Isaiah 11:1-7 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

The world will see Christ is in us when they see the love we have for each other. Do our children and grandchildren see the love of God between us? The devil doesn’t want unity but he is cast down!

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Paul had to fight to keep the faith and unity. Fellowship is a beautiful thing to have together and worth fighting for.

Romans 15:30-32 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.

We want to be comforted together and have the gifts we receive by fellowship with the saints.

Romans 1:11-12 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
