We give God praise every day but especially today for what he did for us. He laid down his life for us so we could be saved.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

The prophet Isaiah for told of Jesus saving and freeing us from sin. The people at Jerusalem were looking for the Savior that was prophesied of and were rejoicing when he came. It is a miracle what Jesus did for us! He physically died on the cross and then came back to life so he could live in our hearts. All these years later, we still have the promise that he will live in our hearts and guide us every day. We have a record of the physical death of Jesus.

Matthew 27:45-50 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

The power of Christ to resurrect others was also witnessed as some were raised from the grave and came to Jerusalem when he died on the cross. Think how it would feel to see someone you knew had died and they came alive that day!

Matthew 27:51-53 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Jesus resurrected a widow’s son that had died at Nain. The people who saw it were convinced that God had visited them that day. It’s glorious to read about the resurrection of the Savior because we know about the resurrection of our soul. We have been resurrected to new life! After Jesus arose, he met two men walking and they talked about how Jesus. They said they trusted Jesus would redeem Israel and said women found Jesus’ body wasn’t in the sepulcher. Jesus talked with them about Moses and all the scriptures about him. When he looked like he was going to leave the men, they constrained him to stay and eat with them. Jesus blessed the bread and then he vanished. They said their hearts burned within them when he talked to them and opened their eyes to the scriptures (Luke 24:13-32). Jesus is real to us too!

Luke 7:11-16 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother…a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion …said unto her, Weep not. And he…touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

Think how people are still being saved and resurrected to newness of life. We’re not the same person we were before.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The Lord changed us from what we were in the death of sin. Old things are passed away and all things are new.

I Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

The power of God is super real to us when we think of how we were in sin and he brought us out – he resurrected us to new life. Jesus cast the devils out so Legion sat by Jesus’ feet. Legion was healed and in his right mind! God is still in the healing business. How many were still saying “Hosanna” when Christ was crucified. Peter denied Jesus. We want to still be saying “Hosanna!” Jesus is still able to change hearts and resurrect us to newness of life but he won’t force us.

Luke 8:26-36 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. They also which saw it told them by what means he…was healed.
