Mature Adult Bible Study Class

The Bible study class meets every Tuesday evening at 7 pm in the fellowship hall, and ends at 8 pm. The class is held in a manner to “engage” everyone into “digging” deeper into the Word for a greater understanding and fulfillment of the will of Jesus Christ in their lives.

Bible Study Class

There are many areas of the spiritual life in Christ Jesus that are considered and studied. In addition to the emphasis of a greater burden and outreach for the lost, we consider many of the facets of life that are facing the class during this phase of their lives. The ages in the class range from the mid thirtys to up to 65. Many pressures and challenges of life are especially unique to this age group and these challenges impact our spiritual walk:

  • Raising children who are becoming teenagers and then going to college
  • Elderly parents that need care or who will soon pass away
  • Changing careers or jobs in an ever changing world
  • Working through health problems that often come with age
  • Griefs and setbacks and more…

The common theme is the need of a closer walk with Jesus Christ and the need for one another. We have been exhorted in the Word:

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:22-25

The class welcomes everyone to come and take part in the study. We also are regularly publishing the studies, discussions, and personal devotions and testimonies of the class via the class blog. So if your are too far away to attend, we invite you to subscribe to our class blog, either by email or with your preferred RSS reader – and you can send us your comments or questions to the class, or place a comment on one of the blog posts.

About the Teacher

Teacher Edith TolbertEdith Tolbert: I had been raised religious all my life, going to church every week. I thought I was a christian because I measured myself by every one else in the religious organization. When I was 23 years old we move to Sacramento and God led me to the Church of God in Carmichael. I heard old time gospel preaching and saw people really living what the Bible said. God convicted my soul and showed me I needed to repent of all sin and be saved. I counted the cost and decided I wanted the truth and I wanted to go to heaven. I repented of all bitterness, bad attitudes, resentments and sin. God saved me and put peace and joy in my heart. I have never regretted the day I gave up sin and religion and found real salvation. It is a joy to see young and old alike saved and growing in the Lord. It is a blessing working for God in Bible studies and the ongoing work of the kingdom of God.

Edith Tolbert taught the Young People’s Class faithfully for many years, but more recently has willingly taken on teaching the Mature Adult class, and we are grateful for the faithful labor she is also performing here.

About the Teacher’s Assistant

Richard LehmanLike many others, Richard Lehman was raised around religion and some Bible teachings. But without the truth of the Gospel being taught and lived around him, he “drifted” into the typical “rut” of going to a church, but still being bound as a sinner. And So his way of life was to go to a church regularly, but live like any old sinner the rest of the time. Finally when he was 21 years of age he met someone who testified to him how the Lord Jesus could save him completely from sin and give him the power to live holy and right every day. He started attending the Church of God in Carmichael, CA where he heard the plain Word of God preached, taught, and lived without any mixture of men’s ideas and doctrines. It was not long after that Richard came to the place where he fully repented of his sins, and of being just religious. The Lord Jesus Christ mightily saved him completely from all sin and has kept him that way ever since!

In the later 1980s the Lord began to use Richard in Bible studies, teaching, and leading a local evangelistic work. Shortly after he started teaching the Mature Adult Class around 1990. Recently Richard has been increasingly involved with a number of evangelism efforts on the Web and in traveling to other places to preach evangelistic services and perform missionary work. Additionally, from time to time he assists the local Pastor with preaching and other efforts whenever there is a need.

Richard loves seeing how the Lord can transform a life and settle individuals and families in the truth of the Gospel following Jesus Christ. He has also come to realize more and more as time goes on the need to not just teach the great riches in Christ Jesus, but he must also work with and through the class and others to help inspire them to a greater burden and outreach for the lost.
