James was talking about people controlling speaking their opinion and the value of doing so. It has a lot to do with what is working inside our heart. There’s a great wisdom in being able to control the tongue. Everybody will say something wrong, at some time. If you have a humble heart and you realize your error and you will apologize for what you said. James was dealing with saved people who had a lot of strong opinions about a lot of things.
“For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” James 3:16-18
