It’s Not How You Start, It’s How You Finish
Acts 20:24 Finish with joy. Life has no value if I don’t finish well.
Hebrews 12:1,2 What would prevent me from finishing? Where is my spiritual finish line? Heaven is my goal.
Carrying a heavy weight could take me out of the race.
Weights make running harder and increase risk of injury. It slows down the runner.
Spiritual weights are anything that would hinder me from finishing the race or cause me to slow down or stumble or drift away from God. This could be what I dwell on, physical or emotional pain, or who or what I’m listening to.
I must set aside the weights and get rid of them. Is there any personal weight that prevents me from finishing the race with joy? What is something tangible I can set aside that will help me run the race? Do whatever it takes!
In order to run a race and finish, I must face the correct direction.
Luke 9:62 It hard to run a race looking behind. This is an easy way to stumble and fall. Looking back can be dangerous. There are things I need to see and avoid ahead of me. I must be facing my goal and finish line. This behavior is described as “not fit for the kingdom.”
What would make me look back instead of forward? What is in my past that is keeping me from fully committing to God?
Revelation 2:4,5 “You have left the race.” If I fall because I looked back, I need to repent and start the race again. Don't quit! God wants us to finish.
Run with patience.
Hebrews 12:1 This is an endurance race. Finishing is winning. We are all running together, not against each other.
