End Times, Part 2
Matthew 25:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 This would have been understood as a typical wedding ceremony. The wedding party was described as the Kingdom of Heaven. There were ten chaste, pure young women. They were accepted by God. Purity wasn’t the question. Readiness was the question. All had lamps, but only five were prepared.
If God has changed me and I’m acceptable, this isn’t the end of the story.
In this parable, the five that were unprepared when the bridegroom returned could be described as “good, faithful, sincere, holy church-goers.” In spite of this, they weren’t ready. They had a clean vessel, but no oil to shed light. A flashlight without batteries is not good for any use.
Am I illuminating and brightening the corner where I am? Really difficult trials illuminates where I am to myself and to others.
The “oil” is personal. It’s not meant to share. Each have a direct gift from God.
Matthew 25:14,15 Three servants were given varying weights, intended to be used. All three were in the kingdom. The five talents and two talents were equally successful and earned a return.

Matthew 25:24 Fear of peer pressure or being misunderstood can keep me from spending for the Kingdom. The servant started out in the Kingdom but ended up in outer darkness. He was wicked and slothful because his motive was idolatry - for his own safety and security. He hid something God wanted him to use.
At times I have to press against fear, even if it's reasonable. It is okay to be discouraged at times, but it can run deeper into depression. Living in depression can run to despair, which lacks hope. Reaching out to those around me and caring for others can help me avoid despair.
A life without oil or without using a given talent is not out of ignorance. Each person described would have known how to be prepared, but were lazy and self-satisfied.
Matthew 25:32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39,40 There is nothing unkind about showing the light.
Has my light led anyone to Christ? Is it my heart’s desire that my light has illuminated the pathway for someone else?
Isaiah 55:11,12,13 When there’s oil in the lamp, it’s productive.
People are living “in the daytime” and think they don’t need the oil. When trouble comes, we need the oil to light the way. I am meant to use the talent I was given.
Am I just living a life as an inheritance for the next generations? Am I “saving” or using my talent?
