2 Peter 1:2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10 This is the way of participating in the Divine nature. What I believe informs my behavior. If my behavior doesn’t reflect Christian principles, what do I believe?
How Do I Hear God’s Voice?
How did God speak in the Old Testament?
- Prophets
- Dreams
- Burning bush
- Donkey
- Audible voice
- Angel
- Writing on the wall
God is constantly trying to find ways to communicate with us.
God was communing im the garden every day with Adam and Eve. He was disappointed when there wasn’t someone there to communicate with.
What distracts me from hearing God’s voice?
Samuel heard God three times and he still didn’t know it was God. Someone had to tell him that God was trying to communicate with him.
Jeremiah 29:13 Pursuing God is essential to hearing God.
Hebrews 11:6 There is a desire for connection.
Psalm 14:2 God is looking for someone who is seeking Him.
In order to hear Him I must seek Him and give Him my full attention.
John 16:12,13,14,15 The disciples were able to hear Jesus every day. The Holy Spirit fills this role today.
I can ask those who are struggling to hear His voice: Does God dwell in your heart? Has He ever spoken to you? He speaks to everyone.
Things and people compete for my attention. I may need to slow down my daily busyness and common distractions to hear God’s voice.
Attitudes (such as jealousy, bitterness, and cynicism) and habits can affect my ability to hear God. Apathy will cause me not to pursue communication with Him. Am I concerned about what He will say to me?
God is consistent and persistent. He doesn’t lose patience.
Scriptures, affirmation and testimonies from other Christians, and strong impressions are ways that God speaks.
- Set aside time every day to approach God.
- Quiet your mind and distractions.
- Focus thoughts.
- Slow down.
- Meditate on what you read.
- Meet regularly with other Christians. I can learn from others.
Psalm 129:3,4 If I am having difficulty hearing His voice, I can ask God to search me.
When I am around another person I care about, I become more like them. Pursue God! He wants my relationship with Him to deepen over time.
