What is Most Important

Are there things in the Gospel that are more important? The things that were important to Jesus were very personal to Him.

John 4:6,7,8 Jesus was very weary. He rested while others went into town.

John 4:32,33,34,35 Jesus told the disciples, “I have had something more important than food.”

In the parable of the talents, a talent represented something weighty. Our family is important; it’s a weighty matter of responsibility. Do I only want to carefully protect the weighty matter? How many weighty matters has God given me? Have I increased that?

Luke 10:40,41,42 Acts 6:2,3 Serving was an important matter; servers were to be filled with the Holy Spirit and consecrated to do this important work. But something that was more important to Jesus was personal conversations. When God is talking to my heart, that is the most important thing.

Luke 17:7,8,9,10 Duty is important, but is unprofitable.

What else am I to do? It’s more than commandment, routine, and church program. This doesn’t mean they are unimportant, but the most important things are directed by the Spirit of God. Sometimes I don’t know what to do, but I know something needs to be done. By being present I am in the right position. Do I have a burden to be in a certain place or position? What are the things that God has impressed to me that are most important?

Matthew 26:6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 When Mary anointed Jesus, she was aware of His most important thing; she had understood these things at the feet of Jesus. He said, “Leave her alone. She did what she could. She did this on her own. It wasn't a commandment. Whenever the Gospel is preached, you will hear of her.”

Peter was the only disciple that spoke to Jesus about the cross, but he strongly rejected the idea. Jesus replied to him, “Get thee behind me, Satan.” Peter was enlightened enough to know who Jesus was, but he was concerned about the wrong thing: what others think. When Jesus spoke of the cross, this was one topic the disciples didn’t ask the questions about. In this important subject they were silent.
