2 Timothy 3:7 The answer to knowing truth isn’t to stop learning. There is no fault with learning. There’s a difference between ever learning and knowing truth.
What is it that I really want? Do I really want God to lead my life? Do I want what God wants for me?
As humans, we all have wants and find different things important. We each have desires and what we find is true. Can I submit my passions and preferences to the will of God?
Mimicking
If I was raised in church I will mimic what others do. That is natural. This isn’t the indicator of what I understand is “truth.”
Exodus 7:10,11 Both did the same thing but they were not equal. The sorcerers’ mimicry lasted only through the plague of lice. If what I learn is just securing a place and how I appear, it’s not enough. Am I choosing to just accept something rather than question and wrestle with it so I understand for myself?
Is it real or am I copying to get by? Am I learning to be sufficient for my calling?
Matthew 19:3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 The Pharisees questioned Jesus about the rules. They wanted to find fault with what he was preaching. The Pharisees were passionate about their knowledge. Do I feel justified by the things I “know” and do I challenge others based on this perspective? When I am interacting with someone with a different belief, is my passion based on what I know and how I think they need to change? Or is my passion about the will of God?
Mark 7:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 It’s normal to be passionate about traditions. Obedience of the heart is to God, not the tradition. Let God deal with sin. If it’s just a tradition I am passionate about, refer to what Christ said.
Matthew 19:16,17,18,19,20,21 The young ruler didn't walk away when he confirmed “all the boxes were checked.” He was honest about the continued conviction in his heart. My passions matter in my response to Christ when I ask to learn the truth.
Humans seek to have and keep power over what they have (own). Do I submit even this to God?
We need to help each other along the way. I’m not always right! I can always learn something new from God.
