The conditions are not in fine print or hidden from me. The conditions are important to accomplish the purpose.
If my calling and election is sure, I am convinced.
Life is full of hazards and risks, including the future and eternal things. Follow these instructions!
There are elements of a typical contract or agreement. The Gospel is an agreement between myself and God. Will I be able to accomplish God's purpose by entering into this contract?
Conditions
A condition precedent means something must occur in order to receive benefit (i.e. "if you…"). Church affiliation, attendence, or family tradition does not qualify as the condition precedent.
John 3:5 Nicodemus had conditions he had to meet in order to enter the kingdom of God.
Matthew 3:8 Repent first, show fruit, then be baptized.
Disclosures
The Isrealites were defeated in the battle of Ai because Achan did not disclose his motives and actions. God did His part and gave full disclosure: I’ve given you land. I want you to settle here. My instructions will allow you to have the life I want for you.
1 Peter 1:4 God's motive is that I have an incorruptible inheritance. What is my motive?
The world is full of spirits. Everything has a spiritual aspect. Have I calculated the spiritual effect of my decisions? Satan wants to consume people; I can't move through this world with only my own power. I must empty of myself to fully participate in Divine nature.
2 Peter 1:5,6,7,8,9 This is Bible adddition. I can come to the fullness of virtue (moral excellence).
There is no benefit to “pretending” and attending church. What is the motive for my service? To be accepted? To have some type of (invalid) heaven insurance plan?
Good faith and fair dealing is the basis of a good contract. Bad faith is subject to penalties. God had the right to expect the best from me.
Temperance is completely within my control or else it wouldn’t be on the list. I can add it. Godliness and charity depend on temperance. This is a recipe to stay with God. I can reach the fullness of virtue, even when I am in a difficult position.
